Our knowledge and experience within recruitment in the construction industry and our close relationships with both candidates and client’s means we are well placed to help employers ensure they are recruiting the right talent. We’ve put together a short guide to helping employers recruit the right construction candidates.
Position your company
Consider the unique selling points of your company, perhaps you use modern techniques, equipment, technology and tools or maybe you offer a great work culture or workplace incentives.
Once you have a clear idea of what makes your company stand out it’s imperative that you make sure the people you want to work for you also know about it.
Consider attending secondary schools and colleges to speak about what life is like working in the construction industry and what it is like working for your company. Consider updating your website to include these USPs and also be sure to get the message across when advertising job vacancies.
Streamline your recruiting processes
Overly long and drawn out recruitment processes can result in missed opportunities in recruiting the right people. Taking too long to hire someone could result in losing them to another company, maybe even a competitor, candidates looking for a new opportunity will often apply for multiple vacancies at the same time.
Although it is important that you thoroughly vet candidates, try to avoid making the process longer than it needs to be. Consider streamlining your hiring process to achieve the best results.
Focus on your current staff
If there is a new opportunity coming up in your company, consider whether you already have the resource or if someone could step up to that position with the right training. It can sometimes be more beneficial to promote someone who already knows the business and invest the time and money in developing their skills and knowledge than starting fresh with someone new.
Also, if you have a good team, make sure you look after them and they are happy and satisfied in their role and with the company. Ask them for their feedback to help you determine if there are any areas for improvement.
